Christ It's Christmas Previews 2011
Christ It's Christmas
So with so many cards to choose from Print Hut this year, what should you be looking for in a Christmas Card?
Well, we have chosen our favourite 7 designs from the 24 available from our 'Christ It's Christmas' range and why we think they are the best...
Review #1 / Star Studded by Will Mead (Sparticus)
From the classic collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', this card stands the test of time with it's iconic snow flakes. Notice how Will Mead has stripped out from stars what he sees as unnecessary detailing, to leave a fresh and minimal approach to the subject matter. The Mid blue clarifies class and reputation. A card for all ages and tastes. The clever positioning of the more vibrant stars draws the recipient eyes to the edge of the card and on to the text section.
When a card is this simple everything has to work and this has been acheived effortlessly by this young Irish Designer. A timeless Christmas card experience.
Review #2 / Quiet Chill by Roger Park (WDA corp)
From the contemporary collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', this card promotes calmness and control. The card using strong diagonals with the focal point of the composition concentrated just below centre page.
The lack on primary colour brings a fresh feel to the viewer, whilst leaving a story of mystery intrigue and expectation.
A real 3D feel accompanies this design, encouraged by understated yet confident typography.
Ideal for IT sector and Business consultants wishing to build on their reputation of results and response.
Review #3 / 3 Hop Robin by Yvonne Daily (Yorkdale)
From the modern collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', 3 Hop Robin is a card full of wintery tales and stillness, with an effective overall cold blue wash. The treatment of both the Holly and Robin are simple flat blocks of colour, originally designed as a collage, using coloured papers. Yvonne Daly later transposed this into a commercial composition, producing a series of 12 festive scenes.
The wording at the top of the card attacks convention by using an unusual blend of Upper case and Lower case together to simplify horizontals and not distract from the holly cluster, precariously hanging off the āsā.
This card is a real cracker and ideal for consultative professionals.
Review #4 / Branch Luvbird Twits by Meridith Taylor (Studio MT)
From the modern collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', 'Branch Luvbird Twits' centres around the 2 brilliantly illustrated owls.
The viewer is left investigating the composition and pondering on their relationship, which only Meredith could pull off. The thought process soon deepens with an ambiguous skyline including a big wheel, which has been likened to the 'London Eye'. The subtle glows from the candles and the lone star set a story of a cold night and pending frost. A card first launched in 1974 at the Kentucky card expo.
Ideal for caterers, Restaurants and takeaway providers
Review #5 / MX! by James Jules Greg (James Greg Designs)
From the Minimal collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', MX grabbed the bull by the horns when launched in 2008 and shouts out loud in an sms 'esque' tone 'Happy Christmas'.
Short, sharp and straight to the piont is repeated with the bright, deep red, graduating through mid tones at the middle of the card to deep rubine around the edges. However the tone is pacified effectively by the fine white pencil line and gentle, abbreviated festive greeting.
Ideal for web designers and mobile phone providers
Review #6 / Conifun by X Art
From the traditional collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', 'Conifun' is clean, crisp and modern, though picking up on the traditions of Joy, Peace and the Noel.
Full of juxtapositions, diagonals and asymmetrics created out off the branches, the card still offers loads of white space which is very pleasing to the viewers' eye. The conifer offers sufficient detail to bring out a 3rd dimension which contrasts and balances the overall feel of the design. The card design creates the illusion of bright back lighting by subtle retouching around the edge of the tree.
Ideal for Florists and garden centres
Review #7/ St.Nicolas' Journey by Faddon Neat Green
From the modern collection of 'Christ Its Christmas', St.Nicolas' Journey is a mono interpretation of the festive period, choosing the absence of colour and detail to express the seasonal wish. FNG took inspiration from an Austrian Festive Icon, that would have hung over a house's treshold during the New Year.
A scattering of well thought out snow balls encapsulates the old man, whilst crude, etched typography creates hints of a germanic past. A pale blue background rounds off one of our favourite festive cards this year. For one of the most basic designs on offer, dont be mistaken; this card offers ample movement and composition.
Ideal for Pest Controllers and Accountants
